Tax Justice Network Africa will be attending the African Union’s 1st Independent Experts meeting on Finance, Monetary Affairs, Economic Planning scheduled to take place next week, April 9-10, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The purpose of this meeting is to discuss challenges and solutions concerning three thematic areas: domestic resource mobilisation, the fight against corruption and the fight against illicit financial flows (IFFs).
TJNA intends to insist on the following key points:
- Broadening the tax base for efficient domestic resource mobilization.
- Increase the focus on corruption suppliers in the fight against corruption.
- Expansion of the definition of IFFs to include aggressive tax avoidance in order to effectively tackle illicit financial outflows from Africa.
The outcome document of the Independent Expert’s Meeting will feed into the subsequent Ministerial meeting (Specialized Technical Committee Meeting) which is scheduled to take place at the AUC HQ on April 16-17, 2018.
This is therefore an avenue for policy influence for TJNA.
Further details can be found in TJNA’s talking points .
