TJNA will join UN member states, civil society and other stakeholders at the 2024 United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Forum on Financing for Development follow-up (FfD) Forum in New York from April 22 to 25, 2024.
The FfD Forum is an intergovernmental process with universal participation mandated to review the Addis Ababa Action Agenda (Addis Agenda) and other financing for development outcomes and the means of implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (SDGs).
The event will bring together heads of state and government, ministers and high-level government officials, as well as senior officials of international organisations, to promote convergence around common sustainable financing for development agenda and strengthen the required partnerships to achieve sustainable development financing.
Insufficient financing remains one of the greatest bottlenecks to achieving the (SDGs) as trillions of dollars are needed annually to bridge the SDGs financing gap in developing countries. The meeting comes at a time when FfD stakeholders are gearing up for the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development which will take place from June 30 to 3 July 2025 in Spain.
Civil society’s participation is being facilitated by the Civil Society FfD Mechanism. TJNA will be participating in several collaborative sessions as follows;

This side event is organised by New International Financial and Economic Architecture (NIFEA), the World Council of Churches, the World Communion of Reformed Churches, the Lutheran World Federation, the World Methodist Council, the Council for World Mission and All Africa Conference of Churches. It will examine how capital and wealth taxation as well as addressing corporate tax evasion can serve to advance the goal of gender equity and the role of faith-based organisations in this journey. The session will explore pathways and discuss proposals for such tax measures – critical for mitigating economic inequality and rebuilding social trust – and how they might also promote gender equality and women’s rights. It will highlight challenges and opportunities in the current political landscape as well as share the efforts of civil society, women’s and faith-based groups in connecting global tax justice with gender justice.
‘A Feminist Perspective on Rethinking Financing for Development in the Global South’

This side event is co-convened by TJNA, Women’s Environment and Development Organization (WEDO), Latindadd, and Third World Network. It will bring together researchers, campaigners, and activists to unpack the intertwining relationship between the quadruple crises and the solutions required to shift the global tax regime to a democratic and equitable arena for more transformational global economic and financial governance that will enable developing countries to adequately mobilise for public service delivery and development financing. It will draw from recent analysis and feminist perspectives on the intersection of tax, debt, extractives, climate, and monetary policy, the panel will unpack and share global experiences and regional perspectives from Africa and Latin America.
