Tax Justice Network Africa (TJNA) will participate at the 6th African Conference on Debt and Development (AfCoDD VI), convened by the African Forum and Network on Debt and Development (AFRODAD), taking place in Nairobi from 26 to 28 August 2026.
Bringing together governments, civil society, researchers, parliamentarians, development finance practitioners, media and other stakeholders, AfCoDD VI will focus on advancing the Common African Position on Debt and strengthening Africa’s collective voice in the global financial architecture.
Held under the theme “From Fragmentation to Influence: Towards Advancing the Common African Position on Debt,” the conference comes at a critical moment as African countries seek to move from political commitments towards coordinated action on debt, development finance and the continent’s fiscal sovereignty.
At AfCoDD VI, TJNA, through the Stop the Bleeding Campaign, will participate as follows:
Launching the Stop the Bleeding Campaign’s Black Paper
On 26 August, the Stop the Bleeding Campaign will convene a session titled “Deploying the Continent’s Strategic Assets to Rewrite the Rules of International Debt Governance,” which will feature the launch of the Stop the Bleeding Campaign’s Black Paper.
The session will examine how Africa can leverage its strategic assets, strengthen domestic resource mobilisation and address illicit financial flows to build greater agency and bargaining power within the global financial system.

The launch will provide an opportunity to bring evidence and analysis from the Stop the Bleeding Campaign into the wider debate on Africa’s debt and financial governance, while strengthening a political and alternative narrative around the continent’s economic sovereignty.
Connecting critical minerals, debt and tax justice
TJNA will also join Zimbabwe Coalition on Debt and Development (ZIMCODD), Greenpeace, and AFRODAD for the side event “Critical Minerals, Debt and Tax Justice in Africa’s Common Position.”
The session will examine the links between critical mineral extraction, resource-backed loans, sovereign debt, tax policy sovereignty and climate justice, while exploring pathways for domestic resource mobilisation, value addition and industrialisation.

Participants will explore policy reforms that strengthen accountability, domestic resource mobilisation and value addition, while ensuring that Africa’s mineral wealth supports inclusive development, economic transformation and long-term fiscal resilience rather than deepening debt dependency.
TJNA’s participation in AfCoDD VI reflects the importance of connecting tax justice, debt justice and resource governance in advancing Africa’s economic transformation. Strengthening domestic resource mobilisation, tackling illicit financial flows and ensuring greater African control over strategic resources are critical to expanding fiscal space and reducing dependence on debt.
As Africa moves from a Common Position on Debt towards implementation, the challenge is not only to secure better terms within the existing financial system, but to build the collective power needed to reshape it.
