Tax Justice Network Africa (TJNA), in collaboration with the University of Cape Town, will host a webinar themed "Leveraging Simulated Data for Domestic Resource Mobilisation (DRM) and Health Financing" on 12 November 2025 from 15:00 to 16:30 EAT.

The webinar will bring together policymakers, government officials, tax administrators, civil society organisations, researchers, and development partners from regional and international organisations to spotlight health taxes, particularly excise taxes on tobacco, alcohol, and sugar-sweetened beverages, as high-impact strategies for both revenue generation and public health improvement.

As countries across Africa grapple with shrinking development aid and constrained fiscal space, the need to explore innovative, locally driven financing mechanisms has never been more urgent.

The webinar aims to demonstrate the power of health taxation as a transformative tool for sustainable development and emphasise the need to enhance health tax policies through country-specific examples of simulated outcomes.

TJNA aims to promote tobacco taxation as an effective tool for reducing harmful consumption, advocate for stronger tobacco control policies grounded in data-driven evidence, and share country-specific simulation results from Nigeria, Zambia, South Africa, and Ghana to inform policy and strengthen domestic resource mobilization efforts.
