TJNA and Africa-Europe Foundation to Co-Host High-Level Roundtable on Tax Cooperation at Ibrahim Governance Weekend 2025

30 May 2025

Tax Justice Network Africa (TJNA), in partnership with the Africa-Europe Foundation (AEF), will co-host a High-Level Roundtable Meeting on co-driving International Tax Cooperation with South Africa’s G20 Presidency on 1 June 2025, as part of the Ibrahim Governance Weekend (IGW) in Marrakech, Morocco. The session is part of the wider momentum building toward the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4), to be held in Seville, Spain in July 2025.

This open roundtable will convene African and European leaders, policymakers, economists, and civil society actors to explore Africa’s priorities in global tax and financial reform processes, particularly under South Africa’s 2025 G20 Presidency.

The 2025 Ibrahim Governance Weekend comes at a critical time, ten years since the release of the High-Level Panel Report on Illicit Financial Flows (IFFs) from Africa, and amid intensifying calls for a fairer global financial system.

The roundtable will examine how global and regional actors can co-drive transformative reforms that strengthen domestic resource mobilisation, curb IFFs, and advance debt sustainability across Africa. It will address mechanisms to increase African representation and influence in global forums such as the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Inclusive Framework, the emerging UN Convention on International Tax Cooperation, and ongoing climate finance negotiations.

This timely dialogue is organised in collaboration with South Africa’s National Treasury, the Africa-Europe IFF Working Group, and other strategic partners. It aims to align Africa’s voice across major 2025 milestones, including the AU-EU Summit and the FfD4.
